What’s new in this edition?
We’ve grown a little—but the text is still 10 chapters and only 240 pages. The revision includes new and updated information on HIPAA, nutrition and feeding guidelines, pain management, infection control, infectious diseases, observing and reporting, medical terminology, Alzheimer’s disease and mental illness, as well as updated skills for the certification exam—all in the same brief and focused format. The photographs and illustrations have been updated.
The textbook remains organized around learning objectives, with an emphasis on Resident’s Rights and preventing abuse. It now contains a glossary with important vocabulary words that students need to know. A new design and color tabs help with easy location of material.

The workbook is designed to help students review what they have learned from reading the textbook. It is organized around learning objectives, which work like a built-in study guide. And the 2nd edition of the workbook includes even more multiple-choice questions. To help students prepare for the certification exam, the workbook contains both a practice exam and a skills checklist section.
The Instructor’s Guide is available both in hard copy form and on a FREE CD. A comprehensive exam is included, as well as chapter-by-chapter assessments. All questions on the comprehensive exam are in multiple-choice format. Lesson plans, handouts, and transparency masters help the instructor present material clearly to students. Special exercises and games encourage students to think critically about care and aging issues. The Instructor’s Guide on CD also contains Microsoft® PowerPoint files.
